What is Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the treatment of injuries or disabilities using physical methods. These physical methods involve many varied skills. In the UK students must undergo a 3-4 training period and pass examinations before qualifying as members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP). Chartered Physiotherapists are required to be State Registered to practice and are registered with the Health Professional Council. (H.P.C. reg.)

What it involves ...

Physiotherapy involves the utilisation of a numerous skills including:-

• Manipulation
• Mobilisation
• Electrical treatments
• Rehabilitation using exercises
• Acupuncture
• Advice & re-education
• Posture and body awareness
• Sports massage
• Stabilisation
• Preventive medicine

Physios undertake a thorough assessment of each patient and decide the best treatment based on clinical experience, experimental learning and research evidence.

The aims of physiotherapy are:-
 
• To alleviate pain.
• To restore normal movement & function patterns.
• To rehabilitate the body to its natural state
• Without the use of chemical intervention.
